I just started blogging

Yep. I’ve come to the conclusion that I need to force myself into writing. I consider myself a pretty bad writer and usually try to avoid it whenever possible. However, text is a quite important part of communication and as I am a web professional and create web sites that communicate, I think it’s time for me to encounter my fears to try to become a better writer.

I think one of the main reasons to my writing problem is that I am a perfectionist. I just don’t like handing over work that I’m not really satisfied with. Also, in previous blogging attempts, I had an idea of writing as a professional. If you are a web professional and have a lot of experience to share, you do want to put that experience in a nice package when sharing it.

Something that’s quite funny about text is that the more words you put in the text, the more complex it becomes. This also means that you’ve got to make a lot of choices on how to build sentences, which words to use, etc. Combining this with perfectionism is problematic – you’ve just to many parameters to play with and therefore it’s very hard to get satisfied.

So how do I overcome my problems? Well, I’ll try to write on a more personal basis, as myself. I will write about whatever that comes to my mind. Hopefully this will make me let myself make mistakes and (hopefully) evolve as a writer.

I don’t really know why, but I’ve also decided to write in English even though my native language is Swedish. Maybe it will make things easier…

So, do you have any tips on how to become a better writer?

  1. Nice blog you’ve got here. I really love the simplified design! I’d recommend adding some photos to compliment your posts. It would help discern what each post is about. Just a suggestion :)

  2. Thanks! I’m currently working on a new design though. I agree about the photos and I’ll try to follow your suggestion about the images in the future :)

  3. Echoing Elliot: your site design is fantastic! Bare-bones appearance without being drab or uninteresting.

I’d also like to thank you for the jon_admin_markitup plugin for TextPattern! Great adaptation. It’s helped me out already.
